Barcelona coach Xavi backlashed Referee Istvan for the team’s loss
FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez backlashed Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs for losing a match to rival team PSG (Paris Saint-Germain F.C). Xavi called the decision of referee Istvan a “disaster” which ended hopes of Barcelona qualifying for the UCL (UEFA Champions League football competition).
Xavi lost his cool over the decision to bound Ronald Araujo as his team lost 4-1 to PSG at the Olympic Stadium. This defeating match also eliminated the Barcelona football team from the Champions League competition.
Xavi said referee Istvan Kovacs was a disaster for giving Ronald a red card (penalty card) for a last-man challenge on Bradley Barcola (PSG player) in the 29th minute with Barcelona leading 1-0.
After that, PSG changed the game direction in their favor when Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha scored goals. As a result, PSG won the game with an overall 6-4 and reached the semi-finals of UFC. They will now play against Borussia Dortmund.
Hence, Barcelona coach Xavi severely backlashed referee Istvan Kovacs because he believed the red card changed the whole game. He remarked we are irritated. Istvan declared a tie with the red card. Before that, Barcelona was playing well with 11 players on each side. He considers the red card penalty unfair to send Ronald off the field with a red card.

Xavi also said the referee performed terribly. He told him (Istvan) he was a complete failure. He eliminated the tie. Although he dislikes talking about referees, he must. That is beyond him. He also expressed frustration that Istvan did not award a penalty to PSG.
Referee Istvan gave a red penalty to player Ronald after Xavi and goalkeeping coach Ramon de la Fuente’s protest. They objected to Istvan’s decision for not giving a penalty to PSG player Marquinhos fouled Gundogan (Barcelona).
However, Xavi also admitted he made a mistake by losing his temper and protesting against the decision of referee Istvan Kovacs.
