NASA transmitted hip-hop song to Space for first time
Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA in California transmitted the hip-hop song Missy Elliot’s song “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” for the first time to Space. This song traveled an incredible 158 million miles at the speed of light from Earth to Venus using NASA’s Deep Space Network.
This song traveled to its target in around 14 minutes. Missy expressed her pleasure on social media following this song. She said it was obviously exciting to know about this honor.
She stated this is crazy. They used the Deep Orbit Network to send the First hip-hop song into space as part of NASA’s “Out of This World initiative.”
Missy stated Venus is the planet of beauty, strength, and empowerment. Her song has officially been broadcast to Venus. The sky is only the beginning; it is not the end.
However, this cosmic landmark comes after NASA’s 2008 broadcasting of the song “Across the Universe” by the Beatles. It also became the first song that NASA sent into deep space.
Brittany Brown is the Director of the Digital and Technology Division of NASA’s Office of Communications. She pointed out that they chose the song “The Rian” due to similarities between space exploration and the artist Missy Eliot’s space exploration.
According to Brittany, the art and space exploration of Missy Elliot have both been pushing boundaries. Music videos of Missy have a history of incorporating futuristic imagery and space-centric stories. So, the chance to work with her on an extraterrestrial project seems very appropriate.
Following these thematic similarities, NASA transmitted the hip-hop song by Missy Eliot, a Timbaland-producing song. This song was from the debut album “Supa Dupa Fly” by Missy. It made her a significant figure in the hip-hop and R&B genres.
This song debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 129,000 copies sold in its first week of release. It also made a record for the biggest debut by a female rapper.
