Violent clash between police and lawyers outside Lahore High Court

A violent clash happened between police and lawyers outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) due to the protest. The lawyers were protesting today when they tried to enter LHC through GPO Chowk; police officers started baton charges and tear gas to disperse lawyers.

Police officers resisted the lawyers who appeared to try to push against the walled seal outside the court. Television footage showed a heavy number of police and lawyers fighting while GPO Chowk was covered in massive tear gas.

Lahore police also recalled water cannons while lawyers seemed to cover their faces. The violent clash between lawyers and police outside LHC presented a war-like scenario.

First, lawyers launched a peaceful protest outside the court, but soon the situation changed when police warned them against entering the court. The lawyers started throwing stones at police showing their intention to enter court.

After that, police used heavy tear gas shelling and baton charges. They also warned lawyers to arrest if they don’t stop their resistance. Hence, police have arrested several lawyers in this regard.

Despite the arrests, lawyers have a strong determination to enter the court. They are chanting slogans against the police. The traffic flow has been badly affected on Mall Road due to the violent clash between police and lawyers.

The lawyers from the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LBA) were also protesting along with other lawyers. The lawyers launched a protest against the division of civil courts.

They are protesting against the decision of LHC to transfer civil cases to Model Town Kutchery and file terrorism charges against their colleagues.

Meanwhile, Lahore Bureau Chief Muhammad Bilal stated they have closed all of LHC’s gates and roadways to stop lawyers from entering. According to Bilal, lawyers were becoming impatient with the police’s handling of them.

Bilal explained police officers had dispersed the lawyers with tear-gas shelling, baton-charge, and water cannons who tried to enter LHC. A heavy police deployment with anti-riot weapons and personnel was already present at LHC since LBA announced a protest to maintain law and order.
