Three more customs officials martyred in Dera Ismail Khan attack

Three more Customs intelligence officials have been martyred as a result of a terror attack near CPEC’s Yarik Toll Plaza in Dera Ismail Khan. This incident occurred yesterday April 21, 2024, when unknown gunmen targeted Customs officials.

Authorities reported that this attack happened early in the day close to Yarik Toll Plaza while members of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Unit were on the job. They were passing through a plaza when unknown gunmen opened fire on their car.

As a result, three customs intelligence officials including Sepoy Aamir Khattak, Sepoy Ziad Khan, and Inspector Hussain were martyred. The targeted attack also injured another sepoy, Ajmal.

The deceased Aamir Khattak belonged to the Karak district and Ziad Khan to the Haripur district. However, Hussian was a resident of Hazara while injured Ajmal is a resident of Shorkot.

Personnel from the police and security services rushed to the scene, blocked the area, and began a hunt to catch the suspects. Two such attacks targeted the district’s customs officials in less than a week.

A similar attack in Dera Ismail Khan (DI) resulted in the martyrdom of five customs intelligence officials and two civilians three days before. One of them was a young child. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for this attack.

The martyrdom of Customs officials in Dera Ismail Khan expressed sorrow to KPK Governor Ghulam Ali. He expressed his condemnation of the act and his deepest sorrow to the families of martyrs.

According to authorities, attacks against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Customs officials have been raised to a concerned degree. They claimed that Customs officers expose themselves, break established procedures, and become easy targets for terrorists.

Following the KPK crackdown on drug dealers and smugglers, terrorists have turned their attention to customs officials. Smugglers use black money to finance terrorism. There is a direct relationship between smugglers and terrorists.

At least eight customs officials have lost their lives in two incidents in Dera Ismail Khan during the past three days. Nasir Mehmood Satti is the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of DI Khan. He informed the media that they had killed 35 terrorists in the previous two months.

Nasir stated they conducted several Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) against terrorists by mutual coordination of security forces and police. They are further planning to undermine the malicious plans of terrorists to eliminate terrorism from the region through several coordinated IBOs.
