Sindhi journalist Bachal Ghunio shot dead in Ghotki
Unknown armed men shot dead a local Sindhi journalist Bachal Ghunio in the Ghotki district, northern Sindh. The local people have attributed the killing of Bachal to dacoits.
According to police, the deceased journalist had gone into his village fields when armed men attacked him. They have moved the dead body to Taluka headquarters at Ubuaro Hospital. They also said investigations are still ongoing.
The victim’s family held a protest outside the senior superintendent of police office based in Mirpur Mathelo in response to his killing. They demanded the arrest of suspects immediately.
The young son of a dead journalist claimed there was a conflict going on between his father and some community members. However, the issue between them was settled.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of Bachal Ghunio’s murder case. He ordered relevant authorities to arrest responsible people immediately. He also instructed them to conduct operations against dacoits.
It is significant to note that Sindhi Bachal Ghunio is the ninth journalist whom gunmen shot dead in 2024. It shows noticeable threatening circumstances surrounding the journalist community in Pakistan in recent years.
Unknown gunmen shot and killed Reporter Malik Hassan Zaib last month while traveling with his brother in the Nowshehra area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Baloch Journalist Muhammad Siddique Mengal died in a bombing on May 3, 2024. He was a senior journalist and President of the Khuzdar Press Club.
However, two armed motorcycle riders shot and killed journalist Ashfaq Ahmed Sial of Muzaffargarh on May 15, 2024. Another journalist Karmran Dawar of Tapi fell victim to target killing in North Waziristan on May 21, 2024.
Journalist Nasrullah Gadani was shot on the same day by shooters on motorbikes close to Korai Goth which is 12 km away from Mirpur Mathelo. Nasrullah passed away after three days due to his fatal injuries.
Unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle shot and killed another Journalist Khalil Jibran from the Landi Kotal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This incident happened near his residence on June 18, 2024.
