Sindh to provide solar systems at just PKR 7,000 to 2 lakh families
The Sindh government has announced to provide 2 lakh families with solar systems at just PKR 7,000 with the collaboration of the World Bank. This initiative aims to tackle energy-related issues and offer long-term electricity solutions to households throughout the province.
Hence, two lakh homes in Sindh, including 50,000 in Karachi, will purchase complete solar systems for the minimum amount of PKR 7,000 under this initiative. However, every solar system will run three LED lights and a fan, giving homes the necessary ventilation and lighting.
Sindh Director of Alternative Energy, stated they will also provide 6,656 solar systems in each district. This represents a significant distribution effort throughout all regions of Sindh.
This project will likely start in October 2024 after the Sindh government completes its purchase. The system package includes solar panels, batteries, and charge controllers.
The World Bank has allotted $32 million in funds for this initiative. It also shows potential for future growth in the energy sector. Sindh has also expressed its commitment to renewable energy sources by producing 400 megawatts of electricity from solar power.
However, the Punjab government has announced plans to distribute 50,000 households free solar systems in the province. The project costs around PKR. 10 billion, which the Punjab government will provide to lower electricity bills for low-consumption homes.

Households that consume up to 100 units of electricity per month are eligible for the free solar systems under this project. So, the Punjab government will pay all costs, including the solar systems and their installation price.
This project is part of the “Roshan Gharana Program” of the Punjab government. However, people involved in power theft, meter tampering, or any other fraudulent activity will not be allowed to participate in this project to maintain transparency and fairness.
Hence, eligible people can register for this project by texting their identity card number and bill reference number to 8800.
