Punjab Police arrested 103 suspects in heavy crackdown on drug dealers
Punjab Police have arrested 103 suspects during widespread heavy crackdown on drug dealers across the province. They conducted 235 raids in the past 24 hours and registered 99 cases in this aspect.
Police teams are conducting operations against drug dealers throughout the province through the “Drug-Free Punjab Initiative”. Inspector General Police Punjab (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar ordered the initiation of this operation.
According to IGP, intelligence-based operations against Individuals suspected in the drug supply chain and online drug dealing have risen. They raided 235 locations of drug dealers around the province, including Lahore.
The Punjab Police filed 99 cases against 103 suspects linked to the horrific drug trafficking and arrested them. They recovered 1789 liters of alcohol, 3 kg of heroin, 1 kg of ice, and 71 kg of charas from them.
Earlier, Punjab police initiated operations on February 26, 2024, and carried out 18314 raids on locations of drug dealers. They arrested 97 suspects after registering 8596 cases against those suspected of trafficking in drugs.
Moreover, they seized 5991 kg of charas, 31 kg of ice, and 103 kg of heroin from drug dealers. They also discovered 216 kg of opium and 114584 liters of whiskey.

Since then, Dr. Usman Anwar ordered RPOs and DPOs to carry out targeted operations at frug hotspot locations against the drug mafia. He gave orders to take strong measures against individuals who spoiled young people with drugs.
However, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report showed 272 deaths happened in Punjab between 2017 and 2021. These figures have exceeded 270 since 2022.
According to Rawal Medical Journal, about 70% of young people aged between 15-20 years fell victim to drug abuse as of 2020 analysis in Pakistan. 38% of them were uneducated people and 76% of them were unmarried. However, the majority (41%) of them were students.
