PTI suspended membership of outspoken leader Sher Afzal Marwat
PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has reportedly suspended the membership of its outspoken leader Sher Afzal Marwat. The party made this decision following a meeting between its founder, Imran Khan, and the top leadership in Adiala Jail.
This meeting happened yesterday, July 10, 2024. According to party sources, PTI will release an official statement today. According to them, Marwat used to pass negative remarks against the party officials for the past month.
He was consistently breaking the party rules and violating the discipline of a political party. He allegedly made derogatory remarks about Imran Khan in one statement.
Hence, it was decided at the meeting with Imran Khan that no leader is above the party. All other leaders will suffer the same consequences if they violate party discipline and cross the line.
Earlier, PTI also issued a show-cause notice to Sher Afzal Marwat for making irresponsible statements in public and media in May 2024. The party considered Marwat’s response to the show-cause notice “unsatisfactory.”
PTI believed the irresponsible and reckless remarks of Marwat about party leaders have harmed its image and interest. However, Secretary General Omar Ayub also withdrew Marwat from PTI political and core committees following Imran Khan’s orders in May 2024.
Marwat was reported to have made a controversial remark about the alleged role of Saudi Arabia and the US in Imran Khan’s ouster as Prime Minister following a no-confidence motion by a joint opposition alliance.
However, PTI leaders distanced themselves from this statement of Marwat while he defended his stance as a personal opinion rather than a party.
Marwat also passed a statement in London that Imran Khan did not want people to take to the streets. But senior PTI leaders have the opposite stance, citing Imran Khan’s will to mobilize people on streets nationally and globally.

Meanwhile, Marwat expressed his disappointment toward PTI leaders on several occasions. He blamed senior PTI leader Senator Shibli Faraz for convincing Imran to cancel his nomination as PAC chairman.
There is an ongoing cold war between outspoken leader Sher Afzal Marwat and some senior PTI members who suspended his membership.
However, the party has not released official notification about his membership suspension. Marwat became PTI MNA from NA-41 on the Lakki Marwat seat in the 2024 general elections.
