Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) strongly opposed the Azm-e-Istehkam (military) Operation approved by the ruling party PML-N. PTI expressed strong opposition to this operation in the National Assembly session.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif calmed the opposition by announcing that he would discuss the matter with the federal cabinet. He said the government would not take any action that would undermine the goal of the decision.

Moreover, they will also bring this issue to the cabinet and on the floor of the National Assembly where the opposition can express objections. Meanwhile, he also criticized opposition leaders saying they are showing their real faces using abusive language.

Khawaja Asif said the KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also attended this Apex Committee meeting. They discussed counterterrorism measures of the government in that meeting. However, PTI leaders are now standing against it.

He also alleged opposition of supporting terrorists, protesting against the armed forces, and martyrs who sacrificed for the sake of national peace by opposing this operation.

The opposition chanted “Operation Namanzoor” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and yelled they wanted peace. They raised these slogans surrounding the speaker’s dias. It made it impossible for the defense minister to speak in the National Assembly.

PTI chairman Barrister Ali Gohar and several other opposition leaders raised concerns about approving this operation without their consent. He urged in-camera briefing from militarians on this operation and took them into confidence.

Meanwhile, the speaker did not allow the chief politician of SIC (PTI-backed) Aamir Dogar, to speak. It resulted in the whole party’s walkout.

Apart from PTI, JUIF joined Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) members and opposed the Azm-e-Istehkam Operation at the Apex Committee meeting before the National Assembly session.

However, this all political chaos started when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the military-sponsored Azam-Istehkam Operation to remove terrorism and extremism from the country.

Opposition parties, including PTI, SIC, and JUIF, have expressed concerns regarding military operations in the country. According to them, military operation is not the solution to establishing peace in the country. Instead, political parties should play a part in stabilizing the Pakistani state.
