PTI MNA Haji Imtiaz arrested again while allegedly escaping abroad

Law enforcement officials arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Haji Imtiaz when he allegedly attempted to escape abroad. He tried to escape Qatar when authorities took him into custody at Multan airport.

He had previously escaped from anti-corruption custody. Following an armed attack on the anti-corruption squad in Gujranwala a few days before, Haji Imtiaz Ahmed was released from their custody.

However, authorities raised concerns about his daring escape from the circle of law. It resulted in their massive attempts to rearrest him.

Firstly, Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested PTI MNA Haji Imtiaz on suspicion of corruption. He escaped from the custody of the Anti-Corruption Establishment a few days before allegedly during a gun attack on department officials.

Anti-Corruption Gujranwala held him following allegations of corruption against him. However, his detention case was brought to the Lahore High Court (LHC).

When LHC ordered anti-corruption Gujranwala to present Imtiaz in court, officials claimed PTI leaders forcibly freed him from their custody.

However, PTI leaders have denied claims of anti-corruption officials. They called their claims “drama.” The Lahore High Court (LHC) had instructed the Director General of anti-corruption to present Imtiaz on August 9, 2024.

Before the anti-corruption claim of his arrest, the National Assembly (NA) session turned chaotic about Imtiaz’s disappearance on August 6, 2024.

When PTI leaders raised concerns in the NA Imtiaz had been allegedly kidnapped. NA Speaker Ayyaz Sadiq emphasized that Imtiaz was neither in the custody of police nor anti-corruption department officials.

They urged Speaker Ayyaz to recover the forcibly disappeared MNA being house custodian. Following the claim of Ayyaz, PTI opposition leaders raised loud voices and created trouble by proceeding with the session in retaliation. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised PTI leaders to investigate this matter personally.
