PTI founder Imran Khan refused to apologize for May 9 protests
PTI founder and former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan refused to apologize for May 9 protests. He expressed these views while talking to media journalists at Adiala Jail on May 8, 2024.
He talked with journalists after the court hearing in the Є190 million corruption case at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Imran is facing imprisonment for seven months in Adiala Jail.
Imran Khan revealed his intentions to face legal proceedings regarding the 2014 PTI-organized sit-in and declined to apologize for the May 9 protests. The May 9 protests broke out on army premises in Pakistan. PTI supporters protested in the aftermath of Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir case.
A journalist questioned Imran whether he would apologize for the violent protests on May 9. In response to this question, the PTI founder Imran Khan categorically refused to do so. He said he was in custody at the time of the protests and was not aware of the protests.
Imran Khan said he came to learn about the protests when he appeared before Umar Ata Bandial, Pakistan’s then-chief justice. Moreover, he said he had already condemned those violent protests.
It is significant to note that the refusal of Imran came after the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general’s (DG) press conference.

ISPR DG Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif said talks with PTI would not happen- unless the party’s leadership issued an official apology for the May 9 protests. He also raised questions about the 2014 sit-in protest of PTI in Islamabad.
However, Imran Khan said PTI would not pursue negotiation and discussion if the Pakistani establishment had no interest in it. He said he sought dialogue with the establishment for Pakistan’s benefit rather than to make a deal in exchange for favors.
Imran also clarified he has no problem as his close relatives are in the armed services. He said he would happily come before the investigation committee and answer questions about the 2014 sit-in.
