PMO announced wrong petrol prices, creating confusion among public
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced the wrong petrol prices, which created confusion among the public. The confusion spread when the PMO announced that PM Shehbaz Sharif Shehbaz Sharif ordered the Finance Ministry to decrease petrol prices by PKR 15.40 and diesel prices by PKR 7.90.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that these actions are part of the government’s dedication to imposing policies that prioritize the welfare of the people. He considered his suggested petroleum price cut necessary to fight inflation and improve economic stability.
However, the Finance Ministry released a contrary official notification regarding updated prices for petroleum products. It created confusion among the public.
According to this notification, the Finance Ministry has cut petrol prices by PKR 4.74 per liter. It lowered diesel by PKR 3.86 per liter. It will remain in effect for the following two weeks.
This notification contradicts the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following the PMO statement. Shehbaz tried to guarantee national economic stability and lessen the financial burden on the public.

So, the question arises did the Finance Ministry practically disobey the order of PM Shehbaz Sharif by issuing a recent notification? Well, this is not the case.
The PMO has reportedly admitted its mistake, they announced the wrong petrol prices. They issued previous prices presenting them as new price updates for petroleum products.
Meanwhile, a Pakistani national, Azhar Siddique filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) following this confusion. He filed this petition for disobeying PM’s order regarding the massive decrease in petrol prices. He also challenged the decision of the Finance Ministry to reject the PM’s order for PKR 15 per liter in the petrol price.
The petition claimed that the Ministry of Finance only decreased petrol prices by PKR 4.74 liter, despite a significant decrease in the petroleum price at the international level.
Hence, he pleaded with LHC to order the Finance Ministry to lower petrol prices under the Prime Minister’s recommendations.
