Parachinar Shia-Sunni Clash: 49 killed and at least 180 injured

Shia-Sunni tribal clash ongoing for seven days has killed 49 people and injured at least 180 people in Parachinar, Kurram district. The Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Javedullah Mehsud has revealed this death toll and number of injured people.

The Kurram government and police reported that tribesmen from Maleekhel (Shia tribe) and Boshera (Sunni tribe) had started armed clashes over land disputes on July 24, 2024. Basically, it was a land dispute but later turned into dangerous sectarian violence.

Deadliest clashes with heavy weaponry continued despite attempts to establish a ceasefire by jirga of elders from the Hangu and Orakzai districts.

Soon, this sectarian clash extended to Peewar, Tangi, Balishkhel, Khaar Kalay, Maqbal, Kunj, Alizai, Para Chamkani, and Karman with other places.

According to media reports, 34 of the dead people belonged to the Shia tribe. However, 15 dead people were Sunnis in the aftermath of the Parachinar Shia-Sunni clash.

However, the Shia community accused the Pakistan Army of targeting Shia Muslims in the Kurram district by letting Sunnis beheading them. They also blamed Pakistani mainstream media for not reporting this incident ongoing for a week.

Kurram DC Javedullah Mehsud claimed both Maleekhel and Boshehra tribes have agreed to a ceasefire since last night. They have stopped the deadliest clashes.
