Palestine supporter Roman Sajid was killed as a car ran over him in a D-Chowk protest. This protest was part of the “Save Gaza” campaign in Islamabad. Pakistanis are attributing Roman to the first Pakistani martyr of Masjid-ul-Aqsa.
They are mourning the death of the dead, especially of Roman Sajid. Probably, he is the first Pakistani to get buried with a Palestinian flag. They say Roman gave his life for the sake of Palestine while peacefully protesting in Islamabad.
Several people attended his funeral ceremony and many netizens are paying tribute to him considering his martyrdom for Palestine.
Authorities said that a speeding car ran over protestors staging a sit-in protest on the edge of Red Zone. It resulted in the death of Roman Sajid and another person while four people received injuries, including a police inspector.
The participants of the “Save Gaza” protest were sleeping on a portion of Jinnah Avenue between Express Chowk and the former Parade Ground when the incident happened. The streetlights in the specified area were off at the time of the incident occurrence.
According to police, a speeding car appeared on the road around 2:45 a.m. It ran over sleeping protestors and then hit the inspector and a police barricade.
The driver then took off quickly, driving towards Ayub Chowk through Attaturk Avenue. Meanwhile, police on special duty had notified the control room about the escaped driver.
As a result, a patrolling squad responded by stopping the vehicle. They caught the driver and shifted him to the Kohsar police station. Later, they registered an FIR against the suspect under sections 322, 337-G, 427, and 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
However, they did not reveal the identity of the suspect, and it is unclear what was the motivation behind his fatal attack. Their investigation is underway.
According to the police, an overspeeding car killed Palestine supporter Mohammad Roman Sajid and Sheikh Imran of Rawalpindi. Roman Sajid was a student at the International Islamic University of Islamabad.
However, Inspector Ijaz Ahmed, Mohammad Talha Ilyas, Hamad Hassan, and Faisal Hayat received injuries. Former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan organized this sit-in protest, and several civil society members participated. It has continued for a week.
