LHC denied bail to man in honor killing case despite parents’ forgiveness

The Lahore High Court (LHC) denied a post-arrest bail to a man in an honor killing case despite his parents’ forgiveness. The legal heirs of the victim are the parents of both the suspect and the deceased victim.

Judge Shakil Ahmad emphasized that legislation had changed the law. It stopped a shameful tradition in society, especially after the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance of 2000 was implemented.

Before this, the true murderers would avoid punishment by obtaining a pardon from the victims’ legal heirs after killing a woman, whether she was a wife, mother, daughter, or sister, under the disguise of honor.

In the current case, Sargodha police detained petitioner Bilal Sikandar. When he killed his sister, 21, for honor killing she brought shame to the family.

Judge Shakil noted that it was odd that none of the deceased’s family members including her parents chose to file a complaint about the incident in which their own daughter was killed. Moreover, they withdrew from offering a quick testimony.

Following this, LHC Judge Shakil denied bail to the guilty man Bilal in the honor killing case of his sister. A murder done in the name of honor must be counted as a murder planned with honor in mind.

The judge said that the petitioner’s lawyer’s claim that the victim’s parents, had forgiven the suspect wasn’t logical. Since the law had changed, a person found guilty of an honor killing could face life imprisonment. It does not matter if the victim’s family settled the negotiation.

He dismissed the bail petition. He ordered the trial court to decide as soon as possible four months from the date of the LHC order.
