KP CM Gandapur announced free solar systems for 1 lakh families
Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur announced free 2 kW solar systems for one lakh low-income families. He has revealed plans to give underprivileged families free solar systems with all parts in the province.
Lightbulbs, fans, cables, inverters, and solar panels are among those parts of a free solar system. According to Ali Amin Gandapur, homes registered under the Ehsaas Programme will receive these solar systems.
CM Ali Amin Gandapur aims to reduce the electrical problems in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under this program. He also wants to minimize electricity losses and lessen power theft while guaranteeing that poor families have access to electricity.
He also emphasized that KP will provide full solar systems in contrast to Punjab, which is only distributing solar panels. Moreover, he declared that approximately 20 billion rupees would be allocated for this project.
However, KP CM Gandapur announced a free solar systems program after Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz’s initiative for free solar panels throughout the province.
CM Maryam also announced the distribution of 50,000 solar panels under the “Roshan Gharana” scheme. This scheme costs PKR 10 billion.
The Punjab government has made a different strategy to provide solar systems to electricity consumers based on their power consumption units.

Families residing in Punjab who consume electricity up to 100-200 units will be eligible for free-of-cost solar systems. But consumers with 200-500 power units will pay a 10% price for solar panel installation while the remaining 90% expense the government will bear.
However, consumers who have electricity consumption units with more than 500 units can apply for a 75% interest-free loan. However, the Punjab government will pay the remaining 25% charges for the solar panels.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has announced the distribution of solar systems for a minimum price of PKR 7000 to two lakh families. It collaborated with the World Bank for this initiative.
