Imran Khan gave first interview from jail to Mehdi Hasan
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, gave his first interview from Adiala jail to world-renowned journalist Mehdi Hasan. Imran Khan strongly criticized Pakistan’s present political and military leadership for its current national chaotic circumstances.
He also claimed to have been kept in inhumane conditions in solitary confinement, which he called his “death cell.” Pakistani government arrested him last year on suspicion of corruption and several other criminal offenses.
However, his imprisonment has become a significant source of controversy and political instability in Pakistan. He described the harsh conditions of his detention in his exclusive interview with Mehdi Hasan.
Imran claimed that powerful authorities were trying to break his spirit by using several psychological techniques. He said authorities have denied him even the basic rights of a common prisoner.
However, he said he does not waiver in the face of adversity, and his faith in Allah keeps him focused and resilient. He strongly attributed his imprisonment to ex-Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, whom he referred to as a “mastermind” in toppling his government.
Imran also said he was sure- after eleven months of imprisonment, General Qamar was the only one who planned this ordeal for him. He also alleged that Qamar had spread false information on national and international levels to support Khan’s removal from office.

Imran emphasized his belief that Bajwa’s false narratives portrayed him as an “Anti-American,” and it played a significant role in his government’s ouster. He expressed regret that he believed General Qamar Javed Bajwa during his government.
Moreover, he defended his foreign policy during his tenure, pointing out that the visit to Russia was a collective decision rather than an individual one.
He strongly condemned the disastrous actions of Qamar during his government. It has cost Pakistan’s democracy and its relations with foreign countries. He also categorically criticized the present Shehbaz-led government.
Imran described this government as illegitimate, citing violence and alleged election tampering. He said this government lacks legitimacy. He also urged a close examination of the electoral procedures.
Due to his imprisonment, Imran Khan gave his first exclusive interview via written questions to Mehdi Hasan.
