Heavy Rain and Flash Floods Claim 36 Lives in KP

Heavy rain and flash floods have caused widespread devastation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in 36 deaths and 46 injuries. The rains triggered landslides, leading to road closures and damaging thousands of homes.

The rains have also caused landslides in the hilly areas. Such as Swat, Landikotal, and Chitral, leading to the suspension of several roads.

The Provincial Disasters Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the affected areas include Khyber, Upper and Lower Dir, Chitral, Swat, and many others. A total of 2,391 houses were damaged, with 388 destroyed.

In response, the PDMA has released Rs110 million in relief funds and provided essential supplies to affected districts, including tents, blankets, and kitchen sets. The PDMA has set up medical camps in affected areas, providing free medicines to needy people.

The rains are expected to continue until April 21. The PDMA urging all districts to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Residents and tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rains to ensure their safety.

The heavy downpour also impacted tourists, with roads in scenic areas like Swat and Landikotal being blocked due to landslides. The Pakistan Army has been conducting relief operations, rescuing stranded tourists, and reopening blocked roads.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan due to the heavy rains.
