Family cut legs of woman for trying to end abusive marriage in Sindh
A family cut the legs of a woman named Sobia Batool Shah for trying to end an abusive marriage in the Nausharoferoz district of Sindh. This shocking and tragic incident happened in the name of traditional “honor” since Sobia had filed for divorce to stop an abusive marriage.
This act of violence and horrifying crime happened in the Gul Town of Nausharoferoz district. It left the victim woman with serious physical and psychological trauma that could cause a permanent disability.
It could even prevent her from ever being able to walk again. Sobia was hurt and left screaming for help in a pool of blood. Her father Syed Mustafa Shah and her uncles Syed Qurban Shah, Ehsan Shah, Shah Nawaz, and Mushtaq Shah committed this inhumane crime.
They carried axes to cut the legs of Sobia. Soon after this incident, police took her to a hospital in Nawab Shah as they arrived at the crime scene.
Sobia revealed when she filed for a divorce from her abusive and unsupportive husband, her father and uncles committed this brutal treatment.
According to Sobia, her husband never took responsibility for his family and her. Moreover, she received cruel treatment from her father-in-law.
The less fortunate woman also told police officers that her husband abandoned her and their two children. He continued abusing her regularly. It left her to suffer alone in Karachi.
She claimed that despite her repeated warnings to her parents regarding her troubling situation, they dismissed her complaints. They called her a “disgrace.”
So, when helpless woman Sobia filed for divorce in a desperate attempt to leave her violent marriage. Her furious father and uncles reportedly told police that she brought disgrace upon the family and cut the legs of the victim woman.
They stated they attacked her with axes when she refused to withdraw her complaint. However, police officers have arrested one suspect, Mushtaq Shah. They are currently conducting more raids to find the other suspects.
