Dozens of Pakistani students injured in Kyrgyzstan mob attack
There are several media reports and viral videos showing dozens of Pakistani students injured in the Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan mob attack. People awoke to disturbing viral videos of armed crowds attacking foreigners, especially Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek.
The videos that went viral on social media claimed that the erupted riots by mob targeted International students in Bishkek. It resulted in the deaths of several Pakistani students.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani embassy refused the claims of the deaths of Pakistani students. It cited the Kyrgyz government and said no Pakistani student did not die as a result of the Kyrgyzstan mob attack.
However, dozens of Pakistani students got injured due to a local Kyrgyz student attack. Some media channels have reported around 14 Pakistani students have been injured, but some have reported it to be 29.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed deep concern about the safety of Pakistani students in Bishkek. He has directed the Pakistani Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to provide immediate and necessary help to national students.
The lives of thousands of Pakistani students are at risk in Bishkek. Pakistani embassy has directed students to stay Indoors. The Indian embassy has also issued the same directions to Indian students residing in Bishkek. However, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Internal Affairs has claimed the situation is under control.
The violent attacks came out regarding a harassment incident involving an Egyptian female student on May 13, 2024. A Pakistani medical student, Mohammad Abdullah, is studying in Bishkek.
He clarified while talking to Geo News that the conflict started because Kyrgyz students were harassing Egyptian female students. As a result, Egyptian students attacked the local Kyrgyz students. According to Abdullah, the Kyrgyz students then started targeting international students in Bishkek, including those from Pakistan.
Apart from Pakistan, there are also media reports of Kyrgyz students attacking Indian and Bangladeshi students. Local media of Kyrgyzstan reports that a clash between local and international students happened in a dormitory (shared sleeping rooms) on May 13, 2024. Three Egyptian students attacked local Kyrgyz students, and riots erupted.

However, local people in Bishkek protested on May 17 evening to take action against the International students involved in the conflict. The Interior Affairs Directorate in Bishkek demanded protestors to stop the demonstration.
But, protestors refused to leave, and more people gathered there instead. As a result, the authorities arrested several Kyrgyz people for disobeying public order.
Meanwhile, police arrested three Egyptian students involved in the May 13 riots temporarily at the Bishkek Central Internal Affairs Directorate facility. They have also filed a case against suspects under Article 280 of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Criminal Code.
