Akhtar Mengal resigned from NA citing govt negligence toward Balochistan
BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal resigned from the National Assembly (NA) citing govt negligence toward Balochistan. BNP refers to the Balochistan National Party.
Akhtar Mengal announced his resignation from NA today due to deteriorating circumstances in Balochistan. He also expressed his lack of trust in the Government, the President, and the Prime Minister.
Akhtar took this decision after seeing the state of affairs in Balochistan. He also expressed regret that he could not help the Baloch people. He showed no confidence in the state system as a whole.
Akhar stated the government has not given them authority to rule for even a year. The government has no interest in the Balochistan issue. Every time they raise this issue, they face a blackout.
He emphasized that if this assembly (NA) does not listen to them, what’s the point of sitting here? Following this, Sardar Akhtar Mengal resigned from NA today.
Former MP Akhtar Mengal stated his conscience guided him; while making his resignation decision. He also questioned where they would go if all roads leading to Parliament were closed.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal was a member of NA-256 from Balochistan. He claimed he had to take this decision forcibly due to current circumstances in Balochistan.
He also stated the House of Parliament has continuously rejected and neglected their province. It has forced them to review their roles because they are being pushed further against the wall.

According to Akhtar, voices like him have remained unable to create significant change in NA. He failed to represent his provincial people fairly in the assembly. He stated this in his resignation letter.
However, his resignation came amid increasing tensions and an existential crisis in Balochistan. Baloch people are protesting against alleged unfair resource utilization from their province and the enforced disappearance of Baloch people by the Pakistan Army.
Law and order are at high stake right now in Balochistan. Baloch people are claiming the Pakistan Army is illegally murdering them for demanding basic rights. However, the Pakistan Army declared to kill only terrorists causing an uprising for separatist causes.
