350mm heavy rainfall hit Lahore as a 44-year record broken

A 44-year record-breaking heavy rains hit Lahore as a city received 350mm rainfall in only three hours. The Tajpura area has experienced disruptive rains that have flooded roads, homes, and commuters.

Several other areas in the city experienced massive power outages in the aftermath of violent rains. However, this rainfall was not only restricted to Lahore, low-lying areas including Karachi, and Islamabad were drowned in this stormy rain.

The administration of Lahore has imposed an emergency in the city and closed all educational institutions and offices due to the troubled rainy situation.

Other affected areas included Rawalpindi, Shekhupura, Pakpattan, Kasur, Jehlum, and many other cities. However, Sardar Sarfraz is chief meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department. He described the rains as “catastrophic” while discussing the rainy situation in Lahore.

The intense rainfall paralyzed the entire city of Lahore. Even water entered the emergency departments of Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital which put patients in deep trouble.

According to Lahore Electric Supply (LESCO) officials, more than 400 feeders in the city tripped due to the rain. It resulted in a massive power outage. They will work to restore power as soon as catastrophic rain stops.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz stated heavy rainfall of 350mm hit all areas of Lahore. However, there was more rain in Sindh than in Punjab, but they had already expected this.

According to Sarfraz, this aggressive rainfall is likely to see a fall in intensity. But it will keep raining periodically till this evening as there is a substantial cloud mass. Hence, several parts of Pakistan will witness consistent rainfall from August 1-6.
