20 people died in Diamer after a bus fell into a deep valley
At least 20 people died, and 21 were injured after a passenger bus fell into a deep valley on Karakoram Highway in Diamer. This tragic incident happened in the region of Gilgit Baltistan.
According to authorities, the accident happened today in the early morning at around 5:30 a.m. near the Yashokhal section on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer. The disaster came about 20 kilometers from the city of Chilas.
The officials stated that the bus had an accident while turning or exceeding speed limits. The bus was traveling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi, carrying 38 passengers.
Recuse crews arrived at the accident place as soon as this incident happened. They shifted injured people to a hospital in Chilas.
Fayyaz Ahmed, the deputy commissioner of Diamer, said at least five passengers are in critical condition. They have shifted two of the injured people to Gilgit City.
Moreover, Fayyaz stated they had completed the rescue operation in the affected area. Army helicopters also participated in rescue operations. He also said they are communicating with the families of victims.
The director of the health department stated that three women who died out of the 20 deceased people in the Diamer bus accident were women.
Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and condolences for the victims who died due to a bus accident. He prayed for the quick recovery of injured passengers. He also instructed the relevant authorities to give all necessary medical care to injured people.
The chief minister of Gilgit Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan, offered his sympathies for the catastrophe. He also ordered the rescuers and administration to give the injured people appropriate medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit Baltistan government spokesperson announced they imposed an emergency at the Chilas Hospital due to a bus accident.
