US teen died after taking part in spicy chip eating challenge online
A 14-year-old US teen named Harris Wolobah from Massachusetts died after taking part in a “spicy chip eating challenge” online. He died due to cardiac arrest after taking part in a social media challenge that dared users to eat an extremely tortilla chip.
The challenge name was the “one-chip challenge,” which comprised eating a single Paqui chip coated with Carolina Reaper and Naga Viper peppers. Such challenges have taken many forms over the years. However, each time peppers have been different.
The local US chief medical examiner said the autopsy report of a teen showed that Harris died of cardiac arrest after eating food that contained a lot of capsaicin, an extract from chili peppers.
The autopsy report also showed an enlarged heart, which may have led to the death of Harris. Soon after his death, company Paqui removed tortilla chips from the market. These chips were labeled “real heat” and packed in a coffin-shaped bow with a red skull.
According to other media reports, seven young people in Minnesota were in hospital due to the same issue after participating in the challenge. In a separate incident, a 13-year-old teen named Jacob Stevens died after attempting a TikTok challenge in Ohio state.

Jacob received a challenge to consume 12 to 14 pills, which could create a hallucination. Hence, he took overdose pills, which put him on a ventilator. Unfortunately, he died after remaining on a ventilator for six days,
His father, Justin Steven, said it was the worst day in their life. He revealed Jacob was at home with his friends when he overdosed on pills. His friends made a video of him while attempting the TikTok challenge. All of a sudden his son’s body started seizing.
His grandmother, Dianna Stevens, said she would do anything she could to make sure another child doesn’t go through it.
