UN blacklisted Israel for harming children in Gaza conflict
The United Nations (UN) has blacklisted Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and included it among nations that have harmed children in war or armed conflict. This move comes after the death toll of 15,500 Palestinian children from Israeli militant activities in the Gaza conflict.
Moreover, a massive number of Palestinian children are suffering from malnutrition in Gaza due to Israeli airstrikes and blockage to aid access.
An Israeli official has confirmed that the UN added IDF to its blacklist of nations that have abused children in armed conflict. Gilad Erdan is the Israeli ambassador to the UN. He stated he had received official notice of UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutters’s decision regarding the blacklist.
Gilad condemned this decision of the UN, calling it simply absurd and wrong. He said this was the shameful decision of Antonio Gutters. The Israeli army is the most moral in the world.
According to Gilad, the UN Secretary-General is the only person on a blacklist. Because he supports and encourages terrorism and holds hostility against Israel.
However, UN Secretary-General Antonio had informed Gilad in advance that they blacklisted Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on the telephone. Meanwhile, Gilad recorded his phone talk with Antonio in a video and published it on Twitter X.
Following the remarks and tweet of Gilad, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Antonio, responded. He said a UN official summoned an Israeli envoy as a polite gesture because they added Israel for the first time to a list in the annual “Children in Armed Conflict” report.
Stephane said they inform blacklisted countries in advance to give them a warning. According to Stephane, he has never seen something as disturbing and unacceptable as Ambassador Gilad Erdan’s action.
This is because Gilad recorded a video of that phone call. After that, he partially released it on Twitter in his 24 years serving the UN. Moreover, he said they will publish the annual list report a few days after giving it to the UN Security Council on June 14, 2024.
