Kenyans on X slammed Nairobi Governor for building a nightclub
Kenyans on Twitter X slammed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for building a nightclub within the grounds of Uhuru Park. This decision of Governor Johnson has drawn a lot of mockery and disapproval.
It came after Johnson unveiled his grand plan to build social facilities, including a nightclub on the recently renovated grounds of Uhuru Park on April 18, 2024.
Kenyans voiced their displeasure, particularly on X, with the ridiculous proposal of Governor Johnson as soon as the news circulated online. Many criticized him for what they considered a misguided objective and blatant trivialization of state policy. Trivialization refers to making something more important or serious less significant than it is.
Voice actor and social activist Gathoni K also responded to X by saying build libraries, please. Why is there a need for a club in a park used for recreation by families? This is just weird!
Journalist James Smart shared an alert by Prof Wangari Mathaai’s Green Belt Movement demanding Governor Johnson immediately cancel nightclub plans inside Uhuru Park or face legal action. Prof Wangari launched the Green Belt Movement in Kenya in 1977 to protect the natural environment.
Another Kenyan mentioned Governor Johnson and wrote your speech yesterday was quite alarming and not aligned with climate justice honestly. She emphasized that Kenyans do not want a “NIGHTCLUB” in Uhuru Park.
She also wrote Kenyans want a free and accessible green space to enjoy with the hashtag Leave Uhuru Park alone, Day 2.

Johnson announced intentions to transform Uhuru Park and Central Park into an exciting social and economic club; that would support Kenyan culture and bring in more money for Nairobi. He stated it while taking the official transfer of Uhuru parks from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
He also said tenders will be released for business facilities in Uhuru parks. Some restaurants need management and a PPP (Public Private Partnership) has to be built. Moreover, a restaurant called Biosphere, an African restaurant, a Swahili restaurant, and a nightlife will be located here.
Furthermore, he stated they concluded that noise pollution in estates must end. Since this is the designated area, feel free to scream till the cows return home. Sherehe hapa mfanyie (Celebration for him).
However, Kenyans on X slammed the Nairobi Governor because they considered this move of Johnson against climate protection. Uhuru Park is a 12.9-hectare recreational park adjacent to the central business district of Nairobi, Kenya. It is a great source of natural environment preservation with massive tree plantations and wildlife habitat.
