Hathras Incident: Deadly Crowd Rush in India killed over 120 people
A horrific tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s village, Hathras during a Hindu religious gathering event where more than 120 people died. Hathras is around 200 kilometers southeast of New Delhi.
This massive death toll happened as a result of a stampede. Stampede means when a large group of people panic and try to run together or escape from a place in an uncontrolled way at once.
The same circumstances emerged at Hathras village where massive overcrowded people gathered for a religious event in northern India.
The religious event was “Satsang (prayer meeting)” at Sikandara Rao area which religious preacher Bhole Baba organized. A police investigation stated that there were three times more people than was permitted.
According to the police report, authorities allowed only 80,00 persons to gather for the Satsang event. However, 250,000 people showed up there which resulted in massive deaths.
Hathras tragedy happened when Bhole Baba was driving away in his car. Thousands of his devotees climbed onto his car while shouting his name to receive his blessings.
The police reported a group of people rushed towards the preacher’s car where his private guards stopped people from reaching him.
Afterward, people panicked and rushed towards an open area. There was a slope. Multiple people slipped on the slope and other people ran over them. They started falling on top of each other which resulted in their deaths because they were massively overcrowded.
