DMK party filed complaint against Shoba Karandlaje for her remarks

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has filed a complaint against the Union Minister of Karnataka, Shoba Karandlaje. DMK party filed a complaint against Shoba Karandlaje to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

However, the complaint comes against Shoba alleging her of hate speech for the Rameshwaraman cafe blast in Bengaluru on March 1, 2024. Shoba remarked in her speech that people from Tamil Nadu come here for training and to lay bombs.

She passed these remarks highlighting several events involving people from various states involved in criminal activity in Karnataka. Hence, she suggested the suspect in the March 1 bomb at the Rameshwaraman cafe was from Tamil Nadu.

DMK claimed remarks of Shoba were a strategy to create hostility between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as Lok Sabha elections come near. They also alleged Shoba of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Hence, they urged the electoral commission to take appropriate action against Shoba and the BJP party (to whom she belonged).

According to DMK, Shoba’s remarks put at risk law and order and exposed Tamils to possible retaliation from Karnatakans. The organizing secretary of DMK read the complaint.

The complaint stated Shoba’s statement generalizes the people of Tamil Nadu as extremists. It seeks to create hostility and enmity between two communities i.e. Tamilians and Kannadigas.

However, Kannadigas refers to an ethnolinguistic group that traces its origin to the South Indian state of Karnataka and its surrounding regions.
