CBI arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal inside court in excise policy case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal inside Rouse Avenue Court in an excise policy case. Arvind is a member of Delhi’s ruling party, the Aam Aadmi Party.

His arrest came after Rouse court granted CBI permission to interrogate Arvind in court. The court also ordered the CBI to enter the evidence into its record to arrest Arvind. The wife of Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita, was also present in the court.

Meanwhile, AAP said the Indian ruling party BJP panicked when the Supreme Court granted bail to Arvind on June 24, 2024, in a money laundering case. Hence, it mobilized the CBI to arrest Arvind today in a fake case.

On the other hand, the Delhi BJP stated since the CBI produced criminal evidence against Arvind in court, it was obvious to take him into custody in the excise policy case. The documents presented in court showed Arvind was the “mastermind” of the excide policy scam.

Virendra Sachadeva is President of Delhi BJP. He said a big scam was carried out when the excise policy was developed under the direction of Arvind.

However, the CBI arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal following the ruling of Special Judge Amitabh Rawat. CBI had earlier requested the court for five days of custody for Arvind.

It is significant to note that Arvind has been continuously facing imprisonment for the past 3 months. The anti-corruption agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on March 21, 2024, in the Delhi liquor policy-money laundering case.

This case is a political scandal regarding Arvind-led Delhi Government. It came into being with the introduction of Delhi’s Excise Policy from 2021 to 2022 by the Delhi Government. Recently, CBI arrested him in the same case.

This policy allowed private and enterprise companies to enter the retail liquor sector. The allegations against the Delhi govt are favoring private sector owners and shareholders, dismissing and reducing license fees, creating several licenses for all new arriving firms, and receiving bribery.
