14-year-old teen boy arrested in murder case of Indian origin grandfather in UK

Leicestershire Police arrested a 14-year-old teen boy in connection with a murder case of 80-year-old Indian-origin grandfather Bhim Sen Kohli in the UK. Bhim was murdered in a park on September 1, 2024 night.

His murder happened close to Franklin Park’s entrance in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire just a short distance from his home. Since his murder, police had initiated a murder investigation to arrest a suspect.

This investigation led them to the teen boy’s arrest. Andrew Baxter is deputy head crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

He stated CPS reviewed a file of evidence from Leicestershire Police and authorized a murder charge against the accused teen boy. CPS would want to remind everyone involved that criminal charges have been filed against this offender and the teen boy is entitled to a fair trial.

CPS deputy head Andrew also said there must be no online reporting, criticism, or information sharing that could jeopardize these legal processes.

Police will present the accused 14-year-old teen boy in Leicester Youth Court today. Meanwhile, Superintendent Dwight Barker reassured local residents about the possible prevention of anti-social conduct in the area.

Leicestershire Police account on X released a video statement showing Dwight who said the investigation is ongoing. Hence, he can’t go into specifics, but he wants to reassure community safety is their top priority.

However, the victim Bhim Kohli was walking with his dog while jogging through Franklin Park when the suspect attacked him. His post-mortem report showed he died due to a fatal neck injury on September 2, 2024.

Leicestershire police initially arrested five children including a 14-year-old teen girl and a boy. 12-year-old two girls and one boy were also among them. Eventually, they released all except the 14-year-old boy who is facing murder charges.

It is significant to note that UK authorities didn’t reveal the identity of the teen boy due to legal reasons. Moreover, the motive behind this murder also remains unclear.
