Sreelekha Mitra shared her sexual harassment experience with director
Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra recently shared her bad and sexual harassment experience with a Malayali director. She revealed it in a special Livethon of Twentyfour news channel.
Sreelekha claimed a Malayali director sexually harassed her when she started her acting career in the Malayalam industry years ago. She said the accused director touched her without her consent.
The Malayali director gave her a bad touch from the director when he tried to touch her neck. It happened back when she worked in Mammootty’s film.
However, she resisted and left the room. Afterward, the film’s producers did not give her money to go back home. Following this, Sreelekha Mitra left working for the Malayalam industry forever.
Sreelekha Mitra shared her sexual harassment experience to expose labor and sexual exploitation of women in the Indian film industry. Her views came in the aftermath of the Hema Committee report.
The Hema Committee report was published on August 19, 2024. It reports cases of uncontrolled sexual harassment at the hands of filmmakers in the Malayalam industry. It raised serious questions about the integrity and moral ethics of filmmakers.
Sreelekha revealed this unpleasant incident happened in Kochi when the producer was discussing payment, character, and clothes to be worn in the film. Meanwhile, the alleged Malayali director came and said to talk with her privately.
He started touching her bangles when she followed him to a separate room. At first, she considered his act purely innocent believing he liked his bangles. So, she gave the director the benefit of the doubt.
But soon after he started touching her hair. She suddenly left the harassing room as the accused touched her neck without any consent. She took a taxi and spent the whole night in Kerala out of fear.
Sreelekha revealed the person who called her to work at a movie did not pay her money for a return ticket. No one was willing to pay her as she did not fulfill the unjust sexual demands of the alleged director.
However, she used her own money to return home and never looked back to work in the Malayalam industry. She did not disclose the name of the accused director.
