American Director Morgan Spurlock died at the age of 53

American documentary Director Morgan Spurlock, famous for directing, producing, and acting in the “Super Size Me” film, died at 53. His brother Craig Spurlock confirmed the news of his death.

Craig stated it was a sad day as they said goodbye to his brother, Morgan. He was also a collaborator on multiple projects with Morgan. He stated Morgan contributed too much with his ideas, generosity, and artistic abilities.

The deceased brother Craig also said the world has lost a genuine creative genius today. He is incredibly delighted to have collaborated with him.

Morgan left behind his mother, Phyllis Spurlock, his father, Ben Iris, and two children, Laken and Kallen. He had two former wives, Sara Bernstein and former Alex Jamieson, with whom he separated his ways. Alex was his first wife, who remained with him from 2006 to 2011. They shared a son, Laken Morgan Spurlock.

However, he married Sara Bernstein after five years in 2016 and remained together until their divorce filed in 2021. They also shared a son, Kallen Marcus Spurlock. 

American Director Morgan Spurlock died due to complications from cancer in New York on May 23, 2024. Morgan Spurlock earned fame for his McDonald’s documentary film, Super Size Me, which left a lasting impression on the business. Oscars Film Awards also nominated him for this film.

He documented himself conducting an experiment in which he ate nothing but McDonald’s meals for a month in the 2004 documentary. It was a social experiment gastronomy documentary that applied four main rules for the 30-day challenge.

  • Morgan must eat three McDonald’s meals per day
  • He must try even every item on McDonald’s menu at least once
  • He must super size his meal, but only if offered
  • He must walk an average distance of a typical American, about 5,000 steps daily

The purpose of his documentary was to highlight the issues regarding the potential dangers of fast food consumption, the rise in obesity rates, and the food industry’s role in public health.

Hence, Morgan reported he had gained twenty-five pounds weight, experienced liver problems, and suffered from depression at the end of the month-long experiment.
