Violent rains in Gwadar caused flooding & collapsed many houses

Violent rains have caused flooding and collapsed massive structures including several houses in Gwadar and neighboring areas of Balochistan. According to the Commissioner of Makran Division, Syed Ahmed Umrani, they made precautions to ensure the safety of affected individuals.

Syed Ahmed Umrani stated they had evacuated forty people to safer areas. They have also delivered mandatory aid such as tents, food, and medical supplies to the displaced residents of Balochistan.

The severe rainfall caused extensive water flooding on Gwadar roads. It has created an inconvenience for residents and blocked passage entirely. Violent rains damaged the electricity supply throughout the region. Electricity disruption for over 15 hours has further worsened the crisis.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued warnings of probable flash floods in Balochistan. They cited heavy violent rains and snowfall in districts like Gwadar, Ketch, Panjgur, and Awaran.

In response to catastrophic rainfall, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan expressed regret for the devastation caused by the persistent rains in Gwadar. He instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district management to coordinate rescue services.

However, flooded roads have delayed rescue operations and limited the movement of emergency response teams. The Chief Minister directed the district administration to prioritize critical infrastructure rehabilitation such as roadways once water levels fall.

Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has raised concern over the catastrophic situation in Gwadar. He emphasized the necessity for emergency relief measures to address post-rain destruction. He urged prompt help for affected residents.

Bilawal also requested the relevant authorities take urgent action to offer relief to the distressed Gwadar residents. He also urged the public to get together and support those affected by calamity.

However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also issued high alerts of intense rainfall and snowfall for areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan from Feb 29 to Mar 3.
