Pakistani man arrested in New York in alleged plan to kill Jewish people

US Authorities arrested a Pakistani man, 20-year-old Muhammad Shahzeb Khan in New York City in an alleged plan to kill Jewish people. Shahzeb is reportedly a Pakistani citizen living in Canada.

Prosecutors charged with an alleged plot to attack a Jewish community center in New York City on around Oct 7, 2024. The US Department of Justice confirmed the news of this arrest.

The Justice Department claimed that the accused Shahzeb was supposed to target the Jewish community on behalf of the Islamic militant organization, ISIS. Shahzeb became particularly focused on October 7, 2024, which was the anniversary of a terrorist attack by Hamas.

That attack last year on Oct 7 resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israeli people. It also led to the captivity of 250 hostages. It also led to the initiation of the deadliest Israel-Hamas war in Gaza which is still going on while killing more than 40,000 Palestinians.

According to US prosecutors, Shahzeb also allegedly considered an attack on October 11. Because it is Yom Kippur, the holiest sacred holiday in Judaism.

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said in a statement the suspect has allegations of planning a terrorist attack in New York City around Oct 7, 2024, of this year with the stated goal of slaughtering mainly Jewish people, in the name of ISIS.

US law enforcement officials arrested Pakistani man Muhammad Shahzeb Khan while he was traveling from Toronto to New York City on Sep 4, 2024.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York revealed they took him into custody 12 miles from the U.S. Canada border.

However, Attorney General Merrick praised the FBI and Canadian authorities for the arrest. Shahzeb gained the attention of officials when he distributed pro-Islamic State group propaganda, including videos.
