Kerala man accused Malayalam director Ranjith of sexual abuse

A man hailed from Kozhikode, Kerala accused Malayalam director Ranjith Balakrishnan of sexually abusing him in 2012. Ranjith recently resigned as chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy after Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra accused him of inappropriate behavior.

After Sreelekha, a Kozhikode man accused Ranjith of sexually abusing him at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru in 2012. He mentioned it in a complaint against Ranjith to the state police chief.

A survivor has accused Ranjith of sexual misconduct and revealed that Ranjith told him he shared explicit photos with Revathy.

The complainant also informed the media about his alleged incident with Ranjith. He claimed Ranjith gave him his cell phone number written on tissue paper when he spotted him during the Kozhikode shooting of Mammootty movie “Bavuttiyude Namathil.”

Hence, he met him in the Bengaluru hotel. Ranjith ordered him to remove his clothes saying he was curious about his appearance. He complimented him on his eyes and did things to him that he couldn’t even explain. However, he would reveal further details to the police.

The victim also told media reporters Ranjith sent his naked video to Indian actress Revanthi. Ranjith and Revanthi allegedly enjoyed it. However, his identity remains unhidden intentionally in respect of his privacy.

The accuser man is the first male to come out with a complaint of sexual abuse since a wave of “Me Too” accusations hit the Malayalam Industry. This wave came following the publication of the Hema Commission report on August 19, 2024.

This report showed several cases of sexual abuse and rape of female actresses at the hands of filmmakers, producers, and male stars in the Malayalam industry.

After the publication of this report, several victims of the plagued culture of the Malayalam industry confirmed their sexual abuse cases. Just a week before the claim of a Kerala man, actress Sreeleka accused Malayalam director Ranjith of sexually harassing her in 2009.

Sreelekha disclosed in an interview Ranjith touched her without her consent and sexually harassed her at a movie discussion meeting in Kerala. Following this, Kerala police have also filed an FIR against Ranjith.
