FIR filed against Karachi police for kidnapping call center owner
An FIR has been filed against Karachi Special Investigative Unit (SIU) police officers for kidnapping a call center owner for money. It has unfortunately become routine for Karachi police officers to be involved in criminal activity despite their appointment in specialized units or district police.
One similar case happened when a sub-inspector assigned to SIU and his team kidnapped the owner of a call center for extortion recently. This accused SIU team consisted of approximately ten officers.
The call center owner has registered a case of kidnapping for money against officers at the Sachhal police station. The police have conducted raids to arrest the accused SIU officers.
Moreover, high officials have suspended SIU DSP Shabbir Awan for his negligence. However, the escaped SIU officers are facing charges of carrying out illegal raids in Scheme 33 on July 9 at around 6 a.m.
They took a man named Ali and his friend Azfar into custody. Ali and Azfar ran a call center. After taking them into custody, SIU officers brought them to a farmhouse. They forced them to give them huge amounts while keeping them hostages.
Following this, call center owner Ali transferred $90,500 to a foreign account. SIU officers received this money through hawala in Pakistan. Hawala is an informal method of transferring money without physically moving it from one place to another.

Afterward, SIU officers released them. Call center owner Ali filed an FIR against Karachi police officers for kidnapping and blackmailing him for money.
It is significant to note that SIU officers became aware that they were the target of an Internal investigation. So, they took advantage of the situation and escaped after learning about it. SI Akhtar, ASI Shahbaz, and Farooq are some of the identified SIU officers.
Hence, it raised a serious concern why senior officials, who knew about the illegal activity of officers, did not arrest, caution, or involve them in the investigation to stop them from escaping.
