Senior journalist SM Fazl died at 93 in Karachi

Senior journalist and founding editor of Daily News, SM Fazl died at 93 after suffering from chronic old age illness in Karachi. SM Fazl passed away in the early morning of July 1, 2024.

The journalist community is mourning the death of SM Fazl. Hummaa Ahmad, a former executive editor of The News, expressed condolences on the death of SM Fazl. She said SM Fazl was a fine person, editor, and journalist.

She considers so many skilled people, professional journalists are no longer with them, and SM Fazal is one of them. It makes her very sad.

Another senior journalist Nasir Baig Chughtai consoled the demise of SM Fazl. According to Nasir, SM Fazl was one of the last remaining generations of great journalists.

Nasir stated the deceased was a man of principle who greatly enhanced the benefits of trade unions. He was well-known for his passion for humanity and the news industry. He would discuss with them informally while conveying a wealth of knowledge.

The funeral ceremony of the late SM will happen today following Asr’s prayers at Sultan Masjid, DHA Phase V, Karachi. He left behind his wife, a daughter, and a son. However, a few years before his death, the son of SM Fazal passed away.

SM Fazl had a long-serving journalism career, that left a great impact on the news industry. He was a member of the Jang Group for his entire life.

The late SM Fazl became editor of Daily News when it was launched in 1962. He held this role until the publication ceased operations in 2018.

Afterward, he continued to edit Magazine The Weekly. He also assumed the role of president of the Pakistani Institute of International Affairs. He also served as President of the Commonwealth Journalists Association of Pakistan chapter.

SM Fazl also took control as secretary of the Karachi Press Club in the 1970s. Overall, he played a significant role in the welfare of the journalist community during his career.

Hence, his long-serving career came to an end. However, it is unknown whether senior journalist SM Fazl died due to what exact health problem or disease.
