Senior journalist Khalil Jibran shot dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Unknown armed men shot dead Pakistani senior journalist Khalil Jibran near his home in Landi Kotal town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Khalil is a former Landi Kotal Press Club President.
According to the District Police Officer (DPO) of Khyber, armed people launched a fatal attack on him when he was on his way back home.
DPO Salim Abbas stated that Khalil Jibran was working with Khyber News. Armed men on a motorbike targeted him when he was riding a car towards his home with his friend Sajjad Advocate.
He stated that the culprits surrounded the journalist, forced him out of his car, and started shooting at him. As a result of the fatal shooting, his car also suffered damages, and he passed away at the moment.
After the shooting incident, criminals escaped the incident scene. Authorities shifted the dead body of Khalil to a hospital in Landi Kotal for a postmortem examination.
According to police, the incident happened in the Mazreena area, near Landi Kptal Police Station. DPO Salim Abbas claimed Khalil had received threats from terrorists.
Hence, there is a possibility that unknown men shot dead Senior journalist Khalil Jibran on behalf of those terrorists. However, Landi Kotal Police have registered an FIR against unknown suspects in response to an eyewitness and deceased friend Sajjad.
Meanwhile, several people attended the funeral ceremony of Khalil Jibran in his hometown of Sultan Khel. Before offering his funeral prayer, several journalists, politicians, and social celebrities launched a protest against his murder by keeping his dead body on the Khyber-Pak-Afghan highway.
The protestors demanded to bring the murderer of Khali into custody right now. Following this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur took notice of this tragic death.
Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that the government will take decisive action to guarantee the security of journalists. Moreover, the PM directed CM Gandapur and other relevant authorities to arrest the responsible culprits.
