Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri announced International Retirement
Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri has announced his retirement from international career after his match against Kuwait. His last match will be at India’s FIFA World Cup on June 6, 2024, in Kolkata where he will play against Kuwait.
Football star Sunil announced his retirement on Twitter X while making an emotional address. He stated you know the feeling that he recollect in the last 19-years is a nice combination of duty, pressure, and great joy.
Sunil also said he never considered the matches to be the individual games he played for his nation. He has done this whether it was good or bad. But he has done it now for the past 1.5-2 months.
He clarified he probably did it because he was moving towards the conclusion that this game (against Kuwait) would be his last match. When he started remembering everything the first time, he told himself this was going to be his final match. It was a strange feeling.
Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri said it was not like he was experiencing fatigue, so he announced his International retirement. It is just like he received instinctive feeling that his match against Kuwait should be the last one. He gave it a lot of thought, and he finally decided to get retirement.
Sunil is a 39-year-old player who made his debut in 2005. He scored his first international goal against Pakistan and entered International debut.

Sunil finished fourth in the all-time list of top international goal scorers, behind all great players like Christiano, Ronaldo, Ali Daei, and Lionel Messi. He scored a total of 94 goals in 150 games over his 19-year career.
Moreover, Sunil won the AIFF Player of the Year title seven times, most recent title he won was in 2021-2022. He has also played more games for the Indian national team than any other player.
