Jackie Shroff moves court against his unlicensed name use & publicity rights

Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff moves the Delhi High Court against his unlicensed name “bhidu” use and publicity rights. He filed a petition to have his publicity rights and reputation safe. 

Jacke filed a petition against multiple organizations that have used his name, voice, pictures, and word “bhidu” for profit without his permission. Bhidu is the nickname of Jackie, which means “friend or partner.”

Jackie’s lawyer objected to the actor’s publicity rights misuse by selling goods, wallpaper, and ringtones. He also objected to artificial intelligence, GIFs, and insulting meme usage regarding Jackie. He also claimed trademark rights for Jackie’s name “bhidu” were being violated. 

His lawyer also emphasized that organizations should not trick people into buying products they believe Jackie endorses. Jackie has a huge fan following. His fans think he supports the products falsified by companies misusing Jackie’s publicity rights. 

He also said Jackie possesses a certain amount of marketability. Hence, companies cannot do it without his permission. According to him, several companies have violated publicity rights of Jackie through the online sale of mugs, autographed posters, and bags.

The lawyer of Jackie said everyone is making money using his name and photographs. All of this hurts the people’s feelings. There is nothing lawful about any of this stuff. He also revealed some offenders used offensive words in the voice-over narrating to Jackie Shroff.

He also cited legal rulings made by the Supreme Court regarding the same matter on complaints of Bollywood stars. It includes Anil Kapoor and Amitabh Bachan. Hence, Jackie Shroff also moves the Delhi High Court to summon relevant parties and bring them under the justice circle.

Following that, Judge Sanjeev Narula summoned the parties involved in the lawsuit filed by Jackie Shroff. He will conduct the next hearing on May 15, 2024. However, it is significant to note that mentioned alleged organizations and member’s names have not been disclosed publicly.
