Protest after PIA left behind boy’s body on the plane

A protest came against national airline PIA whose staff left behind a six-year-old boy’s (Mujtaba) dead body on the plane. A PIA flight from Islamabad to Skardu tragically left the body of Mujtaba at the airport on May 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Mujtaba’s parents continued their trip without realizing the terrible mistake of PIA staff. When the parents of Mujtaba found out that PIA staff had left their son’s dead body in Islamabad, they were in shock and fainted at Skardu airport.

The deceased boy Mujtaba was a resident of Katshi village in the Kharmang district. Doctors had diagnosed him with a tumor at a hospital in Skardu a month ago. They referred him to Rawalpindi Medical Center to get surgery.

Hence, his father Muhammad Askari, and his mother took him to Rawalpindi for medical treatment.  Mujtaba was receiving treatment at Benazir Bhutto Hospital for weeks. However, he passed away on May 9, 2024, in the hospital due to his critical medical condition.

After his death, the parents chose to take a PIA flight yesterday to bring their child’s body to their home village of Katshi for the burial ceremony. They could not take a 24-hour road trip from Islamabad to Skardu with the dead body because of the hot weather.

However, parents and other family members were shocked at the negligence of PIA flight management and staged a protest after the airline left behind the boy’s body.

The parents and another relative of Mujtaba booked their tickets for flight PK-451 from Islamabad to Skardu yesterday morning. They brought the dead body of Mujtaba to Islamabad Airport at 6 a.m.

Meanwhile, they completed the cargo procedure for the body after following SOPs and the rules of airlines. They made payments for this and then set on flight while believing their son’s body had loaded in cargo. However, PIA staff expressed unimagined carelessness which increased the sorrow of parents more.
