Andrey Rublev beat Felix Aliassime to win Madrid Open 2024
Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev beat Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime to win the Madrid Open 2024 championship despite sickness. He suffered from a suspected virus and fever, even though he beat the odds and won the Madrid Open title.
Andrey won the Madrid Open finals after losing four consecutive games. After two hours and forty-seven minutes, he gave it his all to make it to the final and then secured the championship title to earn the great victory of the year.Β
He said he did not know what he was suffering from upon starting the weekend. He had to consume baby food for the first couple of days because he had a burning sensation in his throat due to a virus. After getting better, nothing helped with the inflammation in his throat.
Moreover, he said the doctors helped him get on playing court. But after that, he developed inflammation in his finger and feet. It made it impossible for him to put his feet in his shoes. As a result, doctors gave him an anesthetic to get his feet in. This week felt like something out of a fairy tale.
However, he performed extraordinarily despite all his severe health issues. Andrey Rublev won his second ATP Masters 1000 championship and beat Felix Aliassime by 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 series. He won his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters.

Felix was well in control when Andrey broke it and played effectively using his power. Hence, he secured a win in a three-match set series. Before the Madrid Open finals, Andrey beat second-ranked tennis player Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.
Andrey Rublev has a sixth rank in the world tennis championship with points of 4740. However, Felix has a twentieth ranking with 1880 points.Β
